After a very full year, of which I still have much to go over, I finally made my way back to Canada. I have been home for a little while now and I’m now facing a whole different set of challenges.
When December came, with its cold winds, I had needed a little pause from the writing. The Holidays were coming as well as my return to work. Let’s not even go into all the things that were left to sort out at home. As regular readers might have noticed by the time since I last posted, I did grant myself a pause from writting. That is not to say I did not have a critical look at my blog and my objectives for it.
This reflexion was triggered by the question of a friend as to why I spent so much time working on this, considering I was not getting returns from it. It was surprisingly hard for me to answer that with anything else than “Why not?”, which even to me was not a satisfactory answer. In the days that followed, I found myself giving it more and more thoughts. If it was truly merely a hobby, could I really justify granting it so much of my time?
As a hobby, it combines two elements I enjoy: writing and traveling. Of the former I already made my profession, of the latter I can only accomplish small doses at a time. Given my present circumstances, the life of a full-time traveler is off the table. This is not to say I do not envy to a certain degree the amazing individuals who have been roaming the world permanently. I can however have a critical look and realize that while I fantasize about such a life, there are too many things at home I would rather not sacrifice, things I truly care about.
So were does this leave me now?
Well, I have come to the conclusion that I wanted to keep at my writing, that this was a good thing and that, since I was not going to put a halt to my traveling anytime soon, I still had plenty to write about. While, I might consider this a hobby, it is also a project that is dear to me. This being said, I will be taking it in a slightly new direction. As a first step taken during the Holidays, I have tackled the esthetics and have been rethinking the layout to get the look and feel I wanted. This led to a change of platform and hosting. This was as much fun to play around with as it was a headache. I am happy to repot that the bulk of the estethics changes are done.
Next, I plan on tackling my formula. I think I will alternate between reworking old posts to my liking, writing new travel post and writing post about life at home.
Finally, I added a section to make it easier to contact me, I’d love to hear about the people who stumble on here. So go ahead, go to the contact section and say hi!
Let me know what you think of the new layout and on my end, I will keep working on it.
